Relationship Advice - Dishonesty Is A True Relationship Kil

Expert Author Beverleigh H Piepers
One of the most detrimental behaviors in a relationship of any kind is dishonesty. In an intimate relationship, it is a killer. When one partner lies to another, the trust is broken. That can be very hard to repair, and it does take a lot of time. When dishonesty happens over and over again, it can be very difficult for a relationship to stay on track long-term.
Sometimes lying has to do with infidelity and other major issues like that. However, honesty isn't always in the form of cheating. Sometimes one partner lies to the other about money or just other simple issues in life. For the person doing the lying, often there is a deep character trait causing them to be dishonest.
Relationships have to be built on a firm foundation of trust and honesty. If your partner never knows when you are telling the truth or lying, it can be very hard to build a relationship. Without this level of trust, there can never be a deep, intimate connection that needs to happen between partners in an intimate relationship. In other words, the relationship always stays at a surface level where one partner is constantly questioning the actions of the other.
When dishonesty seeps into a relationship, it is really very difficult to ever get over. The partners just will not trust each other. The partner who has been guilty of lying will start to believe they are also being lied to. However, the person who has received the lies will never know when their partner is telling the truth.
If you feel like you are in a relationship full of dishonesty, it might be time to get some professional counseling. Obviously, there may be a behavioral trait that needs to be assessed. When someone constantly feels the need to lie, there is probably some underlying issue that's causing it. Perhaps they were lied to in other relationships, and it's a way of trying to maintain control of this relationship. It could also be they were raised in a family where they would be in too much trouble if they told the truth about something they did. This leads the person to always lie in an effort to cover their tracks and avoid making someone else mad.
Whatever the reason, dishonesty has no place in a loving relationship. It can only serve to tear down both people involved, and put a screeching halt to a relationship that might have otherwise survived.
Learn about yourself... what makes you this way? What destructive emotions are at the heart of the problems you are experiencing with your relationship. Maybe you need to get control of what you are really telling yourself. What are your beliefs?
For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found the principles to help you get to the root causes of your crisis.
The solution is not in the endless volumes of information you find across the internet, or the advice your friends give... it's in yourself; the thoughts that make you who you are.
